Dear Detox Diary - DAY 2

Hoppin’ John Black eyed peas - Delicious detox food homemade with love

Hoppin’ John Black eyed peas - Delicious detox food homemade with love

Dear Detox Diary, it’s day two and as I stepped on the bathroom scale first thing this morning - which do every morning - I was particularly interested to see if there was any result of my sacrifice and determination.

You see it was a challenge yesterday because me, my mind and my body went to a big new years day party. And that was the day after a big NYE party too with lots of treats! And being a foodie among other foodies it was especially a challenge. All the yummiest foods there for the taking, and champagne, wine and beer was flowing. And the yummy food just kept coming, plates and bowls and platters full of all kinds of tempting celebration foods.

My eyes and appetite were constantly drooling. Do eyes really drool? Mine did! There was a magnificent cheese plate with brie and all kinds of wonderful hard and soft cheeses, pizza and calzone, apple pie, cornbread, chili, seafood chowder, cookies, cakes, chocolate, ambrosia, Oh boy, everything one could wish for at a party.

But as this was Day 1 of my 21-Day Mindbody Detox there were choices to be made constantly. Do I cave in on my first day? Do I eat that slice of pizza? Even though I love champagne and all these yummy treats I stayed strong. Why? I had an action plan.

Seeing this was a BYO I was free to bring my own drink of choice. So choosing to detox from all alcohol I brought my own caffeine-free chai tea made with fresh ginger and turmeric, wonderful aromatic spices and rooibos the African red bush tea making it a wonderful amber-orange colored non caffeine tea. I was so happy sipping this lovely warming brew while others were drinking their alcohol. I drank four cups of it. So Good and an awesome way to drink more water as well!

And since I chose to detox from meat and poultry as well, for food I brought a big pot of my own home-made organic vegan Hoppin’ John Black Eyed Peas - traditionally served in the Southern USA states for good luck all year! And I sure wanted some of that luck on my side for competing this 21-day Mindbody Detox. And because I cooked myself it I knew exactly what went into this dish and that's why I confidently had TWO servings of my home cooked organic Hoppin' John to ward off any hunger. Then I ate a little tasting bowl of vegan chili, then I chose to have a small mouthful of the seafood chowder (I wasn't a fan so I only had the tiniest of tastes to satisfy my curiosity). Fortunately there was hummus instead of the usual creamy dairy dips so I ate freely with rounds of cucumber and sticks of celery instead of crackers. So far so good, Detox Diary.

Someone I was talking to said to try her fresh and smoked salmon salad. I could see it was also loaded with celery, peppers and green onions, fresh dill. She told me the chives from her garden and because we were talking detox she warned me that it had creme fraiche in it (that’s pure buttery cream). So I tried a tiny bit. And yes, it was truly delicious, but I was not going to ruin a good detox by eating a lot of dairy. So I was satisfied with only a tiny taste.

After playing a game of bocce (Italian bowling) my hubby announced to a group of us he found the ultimate, delicious lemon cake. Drool!! Who doesn’t love lemon cake? So again I had to satisfy my foodie curiosity and taste buds with a tiny taste of that too. And while I was there I had a taste of these tiny star-shaped chocolate mint cookies. And then I crunched down two potato crisps. Naughty naughty!

By then I’d had enough and was saying no to more and more.

Six hours later, back home it was dinner time and hubby and I cooked a Spanish style seafood dish - wild caught shrimp and some wild caught ocean perch sautéed in garlic and a little olive oil. Then we enjoyed a nightcap of peppermint and nettle tea.

That was it, my day one of my 21-day Mindbody Detox had come to an end and it was time to call it a day - or a night - and go to sleep.

So dear diary, you know me. You know everything I'm thinking, you know my deepest desires, my weaknesses, my intentions and my resolve. And you know my schedule with a New Years Day party! You know how much I COULD have eaten. You know what I WANTED to eat. And you know that I really wanted to be strong on my Detox - especially on DAY ONE.

And diary, you know that this day I wasn’t the absolute strongest. It’s true that I did have some creme fraiche and some crisps, and a few mouthfuls of sweets, but I did make an intentional choice to complete the 21-Day Detox and I choose to have a moderate detox day so I could be happy to continue for the 21-days and not give up or fall off the wagon on Day 1.

Oh Yay! The scales said I am down a pound and a half. Nice one!

And dear diary, that is the real benefit of my 21-Day Mindbody Detox. It’s all about intention, resolve adn flexibility to choose the level of detox over the 21 days. So instead of being sad and miserable, grumpy and resentful because everyone else is having a great time eating and drinking whatever at parties and celebrations I can instead choose to have a moderate or light detox just for that event, saying yes and no to whatever I choose and saying yes to remaining on the detox.

As you can imagine I’m delighted with my result on Day 1 especially with the party challenge. And it makes me feel victorious with an ‘I can do this’ feeling.

Which is all so vital to ‘The Mind’ part of the detox. Working on the mind is key to think, to plan, to decide, to constantly choose what is truly in my best interest. And to make sure that I had what I needed ready to go forward into any situation. The Mind Detox exercises and hynosis made it a lot easier to be in control of my appetite. And even though I’m not perfect and did not go for the Hard-Core Detox level on Day 1, I'm very proud of myself for starting the detox and for making it work for me.

DAY 1 END ~ SEE YOU TOMORROW DETOX DIARY.
